Job Description
Neonatal Nurse Consultant and Teaching Fellow
This innovative clinical and academic leadership post will be an appointment with The University of Southampton based in the Faculty of Health Sciences with a 0.5 full time equivalent (FTE) secondment to the University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust . The post holder will work across both organisations and will lead the continuing development of providing high quality clinical leadership integrated with neonatal nurse education and a commitment to advancing nursing practice.
The successful applicant will join a team of existing Advanced Neonatal Nurse Practitioners (ANNPS), who work with 8 full-time equivalent (FTE) consultant neonatologists, junior medical staff and a strong nursing workforce, to provide a comprehensive neonatal service at the Princess Anne Hospital (PAH). The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit is a lead centre in the Central South Coast Neonatal Network, providing tertiary services for the feto-maternal medicine department in Southampton and regional paediatric cardiology and neonatal surgery. In addition the unit provides care to a district population with an annual inborn delivery rate of over 6000 babies. Neonatal care is provided for complex babies requiring regional paediatric endocrine, genetics, paediatric nephrology, neurology, neurosurgical and respiratory services in University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust. The Neonatal Unit (NNU) currently accommodates 40 cots (24 IC/ HDU, 16 SC) and 6 transitional care places for mother and baby together. There are close links between the Faculties of Medicine and Health Sciences in Southampton University and PAH NNU.
The University of Southampton's Faculty of Health Sciences have a focused neonatal provision and provided the first national training programme for advanced neonatal nurse practitioners in the UK. Having a renowned reputation for creative delivery of advanced neonatal care we are keen to further pioneer innovative developments and are seeking an experienced individual who can contribute to both Postgraduate and Undergraduate neonatal provision.
This post is ideally suited to an advanced neonatal nurse practitioner or a senior clinician with a strong scholarly interest in education, research and practice. Post holders should have current clinical expertise at an advanced practice level.
The post is full time with a 0.5 FTE commitment to each institution although a more flexible approach may be considered. A satisfactory Criminal Records Bureau disclosure at standard level is required for this post. Please note this appointment is with the University of Southampton and the salary is within the NHS Band 8b.
