Job Description

Research Technician - Oglionuclotide Synthesis Applications are invited for a BBSRC-funded research technician post in the Faculty of Natural and Environmental Sciences, Chemistry to work on the BBSRC-funded sLoLa project “Extending the Boundaries of Nucleic Acid Chemistry".

The project will exploit click ligation which is new chemical method for joining DNA and RNA strands to make large biologically active constructs. Click ligation will be used to make very long DNA and RNA strands for the assembly of chemically-modified synthetic genes, to probe the physical structures of genes and to investigate the biology of RNA viruses. In the field of Nanotechnology click ligation will be used to build artificial molecular machines.

The successful applicant will be responsible for the supply of modified oligonucleotides and click-ligated nucleic acid constructs to collaborators at Southampton and Oxford Universities and will be expected to carry out some chemical synthesis and basic molecular biology.

A Degree in Chemistry or Biological Sciences is a minimum requirement and previous experience in the nucleic acid field is desirable.
