Job Description
English & Romanian Adoptees Study – Young Adult Follow-up
Two Research Fellows (Full Time, fixed-term contracts, both 3 year posts)
Applications are invited for two full-time Research Fellow positions to work on an ESRC funded study exploring the long term effects of early institutional deprivation on transitions from adolescence to young adulthood in the Developmental Brain-Behaviour Laboratory (DBBL) at the University of Southampton. The post-holders will be responsible for data collection in families located across the UK and beyond, using both qualitative and quantitative techniques and for subsequent analysis of the quantitative data under supervision. There may be the opportunity to take the lead role in coordinating the day-to-day running of the project under the direction of the study investigators.
Both post holders will be experienced in the use of these techniques to examine cognitive, socio-emotional and mental health outcomes in clinical or other potentially vulnerable populations. They will be experienced in the use of standard statistical software packages, particularly SPSS. Expertise in developmental psychopathology, and experience with advanced statistical techniques such as mixed-effects regression models for the analysis of longitudinal data, and with using special software for structural equation modelling of longitudinal data such as Mplus would be beneficial.
Both appointees will have excellent interpersonal skills and experience of giving presentations, the preparation and submission of academic papers, and writing of grant applications.
The posts are available from March 2012, for three years.
For further details and an informal discussion please contact Professor Edmund Sonuga-Barke (02380 594604 – ejb3@soton.ac.uk).
