Job Description

Part time 0.6 FTE 12 month fixed term

The National Institute of Health Research Evaluation, Trials and Studies Coordinating Centre (NETSCC)

The University of Southampton is home to the NIHR Evaluation, Trials and Studies Coordinating Centre (NETSCC).  Established in 2008 NETSCC manages evaluation research programmes and other research on behalf of the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR).  We are dedicated to ensuring that high quality research information on the costs, effectiveness and broader impact of health technologies is produced in the most effective way for those who use, manage and provide care in the NHS. Among current research programmes is the Health Technology Assessment (HTA) programme (www.hta.ac.uk) which is responsible for the largest single national programme of commissioned research for the NHS.  We fund independent research into the effectiveness of healthcare treatments and tests for those who use, manage and provide care in the NHS.  You would be working within the Themed Calls funding team.  Themed Calls run on an annual basis.  Researchers are invited to submit applications under a specific theme, where research is specifically needed, which are then assessed.

As Assistant Programme Manager to the HTA Themed Calls funding team, you will support the Programme Manager and work closely with the Administrator.  You will ensure the smooth delivery of two-day boards, which take place in London.  As a team, you will prepare the extensive paperwork required for each board, including securing comments on research proposals from external reviewers.  In addition, you will support research applicants with their queries.  Work with the Chair and board members to help them prepare for each meeting.  Ensure all Management Information Systems are kept up to date.

This post would suit someone who is naturally well organised, keen to gain management experience, and who works well as part of a team.  The ability to become quickly familiar with policies and processes will be essential, as will be a flexible approach.  You will have administrative experience, excellent communication and organisational skills, and the ability to develop positive working relationships with colleagues and stakeholders of the HTA programme.

We offer excellent benefits including generous holidays, flexible working arrangements and the opportunity to develop your career in a professional, friendly and pleasant working environment.
