Job Description

iSolutions, a team of approximately 280 permanent personnel, is the sole provider of ICT for the University of Southampton.  This is a large and prestigious University and is highly dependent upon a vast array of advanced technologies.  Combined with generous holidays, on-site gym, on-site nursery, a culture of co-operation and a contributory pension scheme, working for iSolutions provides unrivalled opportunities, leading to extremely rewarding and satisfying working lives.  We provide over 250 major services to meet the diverse needs of the University’s teaching, learning, research and corporate communities. 

The Operations Team, comprising approximately 55 staff, is considered the final level of escalation for technical issues and works to continually improve the technology and the services delivered. The operational column has a variety of experienced infrastructure engineers, network specialists, DBAs and application support professionals (developers).  

The technology is already hosted in a large multilayer datacentre but the whole IT infrastructure is soon to migrate to our new datacentre, the build of which will begin in early 2012.  This is an exciting and technically challenging project that will certainly involve all members of the Operations Team.

Availability and resilience are our core business.  We are constantly seeking better ways to continuously improve our infrastructure and the user experience. 

To meet the University’s demand, we require a range of skills, and for each skill we need depth of understanding.  The following list shows the majority of disciplines we must acquire from the role.  Please bear in mind we do not expect that any one candidate will possess all the skills mentioned below.   

Therefore, if you have professional skills in SOME of the areas on the following list, we are very interested in hearing from you: 

• Analogue Telephony
• Digital Telephony
• VOIP H323 and/or SIP
• Aastra/Ericsson or equivalent scale telephony technology
• TCP/IP Networking
• Network VLANS & QoS
• Management of Telephony based applications(including extension manager, directory manager, voicemail, call recording, call logging and charging, call centres)
• PC based phone applications & wiring documentation tools
