Job Description

iSolutions supports and manages a wide range of Information and Communications Technology (ICT) facilities, to enhance all of the University’s Teaching and Learning, Research and Administrative activities. Organisationally, iSolutions is a separately accountable support department of the University, which acts in close liaison with its users, academic Schools and administrative departments.

The role of Web Systems and Data Management Specialist falls under the Technical Innovation and Developments team, a part of the Research Computing stream in iSolutions, and is operationally deployed into the Faculty of Physical and Applied Sciences.  The Faculty of Physical and Applied Science is comprised of Physics and Astronomy, the Optoelectronic Research Centre, and Electronics and Computer Science.  The post holder will be a key part of the web and data management support team for this Faculty, and as such will be influential in supporting the Faculty’s world class reputation in web and computer science.

As part of the faculty embedded ICT staff the post holder will be working in a small team of systems and web specialists who have produced initiatives such as ePrints (http://www.eprints.org/) and Mailscanner (http://www.mailscanner.info/), as well as helping to promote the uptake of open data in the UK.  The post holder will benefit from being part of a small, focussed team, with the support of the entire iSolutions department.

As well as providing support and developments for the benefit of the Faculty of Physical and Applied Sciences, the post holder will be expected to provide similar services across the University, either through the extension of innovative services from the Faculty to a wider audience, or through direct support of research projects where the post holders skill set can be applied.
