Job Description

Applications are invited for a Research Fellow position in Communications, Signal Processing & Control, Electronics and Computer Science. The Unit is the largest of its kind in the UK and in the last Research Assessment Exercise (in 2008) Computer Science was ranked joint second in the UK for the quality of its research, with 85 per cent of its research work being rated as either world leading or internationally excellent.

The successful candidate will work on the CHIRON Project which intends to combine state-of-the art technologies and innovative solutions into an integrated framework designed for an effective and person-centric health management along the complete care cycle. This is a pan-European project involving 27 partners all over Europe that integrates fundamental researches starting from signal processing, VLSI architecture design to wireless communication and patient health record development. The specific task for this position involves rigorous algorithmic analysis and ultra low-power VLSI chip implementation of computationally intensive signal processing parts like signal denoising, artefact separation, feature extraction and classification which will aid the clinicians to reach to a clinical diagnosis and monitoring disease prognosis

You will have a PhD in VLSI signal processing with in-depth knowledge of low-power hardware development (FPGA/ASIC) and algorithm formulation. You will be an expert in Matlab, high-level hardware description language, Xilinx/Altera FPGA, Synopsys Synthesis tool, and Cadence design system for ASIC design. Knowledge in Wireless Sensor Network and biomedical signal processing is also very much desirable.

Candidates who are about to submit their PhD thesis and can start work from February 2012 are also eligible. Exceptional candidates who have just completed MSc in Systems on Chip design related area will also be considered.
