Job Description

General Surgery but with cancer interest

With Honorary Specialist Registrar appointment in the same specialty

The University of Southampton, together with University Hospitals Southampton Foundation Trust, wishes to appoint a Clinical Lecturer in Surgery funded by the NIHR.  The successful appointees will work within the CRUK Centre.  The appointee for this post will be a trainee in General Surgery.  The post-holders will have clinical commitments designed to fulfil the candidate’s Higher Specialist Training needs (at Southampton University Hospitals NHS Trust or where necessary other NHS Trusts determined by the relevant Specialty Training Committee and Programme Training Director), develop their own postdoctoral programme of clinical or laboratory based research and to develop the candidate’s teaching and training portfolio.  The post is subject to terms and conditions of service determined by the University of Southampton and in its honorary clinical capacity by the University Hospitals Southampton Foundation NHS Trust Board and other NHS Trust boards as required.

You must have appropriate experience in the surgical specialty and a track record in, and commitment to, research and teaching.  Work for a higher degree e.g. a PhD must be complete.  A satisfactory Criminal Records Bureau disclosure at Enhanced level is required for this post.  The post is fixed term for 3 years.
