Job Description

Faculty of Social & Human Sciences

Centre for Research on Ageing

Two year fixed-term, 0.5 Full Time Equivalent

We are seeking to appoint an experienced researcher with qualitative skills to join the Centre for Research on Ageing on the ‘Acceptability of and satisfaction with social care among South Asian groups’project, funded by the NIHRSchoolfor Social Care Research. The study will explore the reasons why individuals from minority ethnic communities tend to report lower levels of satisfaction with social care services compared to the White majority population in national satisfaction surveys.

It is expected that the post-holder will recruit participants and conduct in-depth interviews with individuals from South Asian and White British ethnic groups, as well as with social care service providers from different sectors. Experience of recruiting participants from minority ethnic groups is essential, while the ability to speak at least one South Asian language relevant to the project would be an advantage (e.g. Urdu, Sylheti or Punjabi).

The post-holder will join a vibrant multi-disciplinary team of academics, be supervised by staff in the Centre for Research on Ageing, and also work closely with project co-investigators from the Division of Sociology and Social Policy.

The post is advertised as 0.5 FTE for two years, but consideration would be given to applicants who wish to work full-time for one year, or a variation of hours.

The post is tenable from 1st May 2012.

The Centre for Research on Ageing is directed by Prof. Maria Evandrou and the research interests and recent publications of staff members can be found on our web pages at http://www.ageing.soton.ac.uk
